DOMENICI STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: CHRIS GALLEGOS
July 9, 1996 (202) 224-7082
DOMENICI STATEMENT ON VOTE FOR A MINIMUM WAGE INCREASE:
"I believe we have passed a well-balanced, compromise bill
that will allow minimum wage earners to take home more pay without
unduly harming small business growth in New Mexico and around the
country. This legislation, with its training wage, should not
cause any substantial loss of jobs. It is my hope that we can get
this bill to the President as soon as possible for enactment."
The minimum wage passed by the Senate today is identical to
that passed by the House of Representatives. It would increase the
minimum wage by 90-cents, to $5.15 an hour over the next year. It
sets a training wage provision of $4.25 an hour for employees 20
years old and under for the first 90 days of employment.
