PENASCO FIESTAS
August 8, 9, 10. 1997
Penasco, New Mexico

The Penasco Fiesta has been an ongoing celebration in the PenascoValley since the arrival of the Spanish settlers to the area. During this period, Fray Dominguez established the first Catholic parish at Picuris Pueblo. The parish was named after San Lorenzo who to this day is still honored by the Picuris during their Feast Days of San Lorenzo. Archbishop Sheehan will conduct a mass at the Picuris Pueblo church at 9:00 AM on Sunday, August 10th. Many family reunions are held during this time as former area residents return to the Penasco Valley to reestablish ties with family and friends during the weekend activities.

This year's Penasco Fiesta Queen and Princess candidates are selling raffle tickets to raise funds to buy needed equipment for the newly remodeled Penasco Valley Youth and Family Community Center.
