I have contacted local and regional sponsors to underwrite the conference. The agenda is set, speakers have agreed on content, and marketing has begun. This will be another successful event for La Plaza and collaborating partners. 3. We are planning summer classes to be offered in conjunction with the Town of Taos annual summer program. The classes will be offered at the Town’s Youth and Family Center computer lab during the weeks of June 11, 2001 – August 17, 2001. Jovanna Poe and Nancy Montano have developed the courses and are meeting with the YFC director for finalizing the application. Once it is determined how La Plaza will participate, dates, times, and classes will be announced. 4. Enchanted Circle Day – held in Santa Fe on January 30, 2000 by the Taos County Chamber of Commerce. This was the event for legislators to mingle with Enchanted Circle businesses, municipal and educational leaders, and other community members. Nancy Montano and Barb Hau represented La Plaza with our display and an online presentation of our website. Jerome Block, PRC Commission and Chair, was very interested in the Penasco wireless project. He mentioned La Plaza presenting the project to the PRC after the Legislative session. We sent an email to Mr. Block and offered the presentation and discussion of “last mile technology.” 5. Taos Plaza Project – Barb Hau, Nancy Montano, and Judith Pepper represented La Plaza on February 13, 2001 at the Taos Plaza. Nancy was the big raffle winner with a basket of products and services from the Historic District businesses! 6. Ecommerce summit/2001 – planning continues with LANL for the March 8, 2001 conference being held in Taos. Letters of sponsorship have been sent to local and regional businesses for the conference – these businesses have approved sponsorships: Taos Net, Regional Development Corporation, Peoples Bank, First State Bank, Centinel Bank, Taos Business Alliance, Kit Carson Electric Coop. There are other requests pending. II. Funding Acquisitions 1. McCune Foundation - sent a request for a full application after review of the letter of intent asking for funding of community outreach trainers at the Questa Youth and Family Center and the Taos Pueblo Red Willow Resource Center. 2. Kellogg Foundation – pending approval of the training resource center. 3. The staff is meeting on Friday, Feb 16 to discuss ideas for funding requests from the Turner Foundation and New Mexico Community Foundation. III. Benefits La Plaza has been able to secure a medical insurance group policy for staff. Billy Knight, insurance broker and financial planner, submitted quotes from 3 companies and the staff chose a plan from John Alden Insurance Company. The coverage is adequate and very affordable for staff who needed dependent coverage. The coverage is effective Feb 15, 2001 and 7 staff are participating. Respectfully, Judith Pepper Executive Director
