Executive Directors Report
October 15, 1997

Community Meeting:

The meeting was a success! 81 people were in attendance, 43 who were La Plaza members, and 38 non-members. An article will be published in the October 23, Taos News. La Plaza is developing a story for the web site and an announcment will be sent upon completing.

The staff processed the meeting with Frank Odasz on Tuesday morning. The main thrust of the meeting was to maintain the momentum of the meeting and plan and develop community activites with our users.

A special thanks to Ed Ramsey, board member, for hosting Frank at his Bed & Breakfast, and for scheduling the lecture hall at Taos High School.

Future Projects:

A bid was submitted to La Jicarita Enterprises to conduct a feasibility study for 2 projects in Mora, Taos, and Rio Arriba counties:

  1. A for-profit Internet Service Provider in the 3 counties ($5800)
  2. A for-profit Multi-media business in the 3 counties ($5800)

If approved, the studies will be conducted by Mike Bearden and we can learn about commercial ISP's and Multi-media businesses. The study will determine the market, a projected income level, trained staff for the business.

Areas for board discussion:

The board needs to schedule a meeting to discuss and approve a new fee schedule for La Plaza. Once this is done, then a 1998 budget will be submitted for approval by the Board.

After Board election, we have McCune Foundation money to conduct training for the members regarding roles and responsibilties of a nonprofit board and it' members.
