A long long time ago there was a family who lived at Taos Pueblo. When White Wolf was going to go work on his corn fields by the ridge he saw that an elk had been shot and left to rot in his field. White Wolf heard someone talking. He looked over the ridge and he saw some people that had weard clothes on. He had never seen them before. They had clothes on that he had never seen before and weapons that he had never seen before either. Then he went to tell the other other people in the village and when he got back the Spanish strangers were already there. The Red Willow people thought that the spanish were nice so they let them stay in the village. After a few years the spanish started making the Red willow people work as slaves. Then the Red Willow People started doing as they were told or the Spanish would cut off their fingers and the spanish started making them work on a bilding called a curch. The spanish killed Sweet Water's father because he tried to get away from the spanish when they were working in the fields. He tried to hide in the bushes, but one of the soldiers saw him trying to hide and then the soldier shot Running Deer. Sweet Water was there when her father got killed.

Sweet Water went to where her brother was building the church. When Running Deer heard what happened to his father they went to their village house and then they called a meeting to sent a runner to tell the other Pueblos to come and force the Spanish out of the Pueblo. The other Pueblos came and forced the Spanish out of Taos Pueblo. But the Spanish came back after about two weeks. The Red Willow people and the Spanish got in a battle. The Spanish turned against their own church. Running Deer got killed in the big battle and alot of the warriors got killed and the Spanish shot the church with canons. Sweet Water was all alone because all her family was killed. But the Red Willow people won the big battle.
