YOU CAN HELP BY-.

- listening carefully to what the
child is saying

- telling the child the abuse was not his or her fault

- letting the child know you will make a report to help stop the abuse

YOU WILL NOT HELP IF YOU

• make promises you cannot keep, such as promising you will not tell anyone
• ask about the details of the abuse
• discuss what the child told you with anyone who is not directly involved.

TO REPORT CHILD ABUSE

- call 1-800-797-3260 (the NM State- wide Central Intake for Child Protective Services) and local law enforcement:
the State Police 758-1466, the County Sheriff 751-8593, or the Taos Police 758-8645.
