Open Transport PPP
(Macintosh)
For Macintosh users with system 7.5.3 or greater, Open Transport PPP v.1.0 may be preferable to FreePPP as the method of connecting to La Plaza. OT/PPP requires Open Transport (also known as TCP/IP - the latest version is 1.1.2) and is not compatible with MacTCP. If Open Transport and Open Transport PPP are not installed on your machine and aren't included with your system software disk, they can be downloaded from Apple.
Click here for Open Transport configuration instructions.

Using OT/PPP
Starting PPP Automatically
(See #13, above)
- Make sure your modem is connected and turned on
- Open an internet application, such as Netscape or Internet Explorer
- PPP will start automatically as soon as an internet connection is needed. If the "Save Password" box isn't checked in the PPP control panel, you will be asked to enter your password.
- Once the connection to La Plaza is established, you're ready to go!
Manually starting OT/PPP
- Make sure your modem is connected and turned on
- Open the PPP control panel
- If the "Save Password" box isn't checked, you'll need to enter your password
- Click the "Connect" button
- PPP will let you know when it has established a connection
- You're now connected to La Plaza. Start up an internet application (Netscape, Internet Explorer) and start surfing!
Closing your PPP connection
- Open the PPP control panel (if it's not open already) and click the "Disconnect" button
- As an alternative to going to the control panels everytime you need to shut down your connection, you could download OT/PPP Switch, which is a little Applescript you can place on your desktop and use to toggle OT/PPP on and off. Double-click to open a connection; double-click again to close it. How convenient.
