| Habitat for Humanity of Taos
Habitat for Humanity of Taos is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an ecumenical, nonprofit Christian housing ministry building decent, affordable housing and renovating existing housing in partnership with people in need. Volunteers provide most of the labor; individual and corporate donors provide funding and building materials. Partner families put 500 or more hours of "sweat equity" into their homes and those of others. Habitat houses are sold at no profit, with no interest charged. Mortgage payments go into revolving fund for Humanity, to finance additional houses.
WE WELCOME VOLUNTEERS Habitat/Taos offers a unique building experience as we build with vigas and adobe, a traditional southwestern style of architecture. Taos is also the home of a strong alternative building environment, emphasizing green construction and self-sustainability. Volunteers benefit from participating in various phases of construction at multiple house sites. If you can work, from construction to fundraising, we can use you. Please contact the office ‚ Habitat needs you!

WE ARE GROWING
Habitat for Humanity of Taos offers a variety of service projects for
volunteers of all ages. Here are a few of our current programs:
Collegiate Challenge
is a service opportunity for college and high school students ages 16 and older,
coordinated by the Campus Chapters and Youth Programs department of
Habitat for Humanity International. Since its founding in 1989, Collegiate
Challenge has grown into one of the largest spring break programs in the country.
Students raise funds, build houses, and have fun while working to further the

Care-a-vanners. These itinerant
volunteers, in groups or as individuals, bring themselves and their RVs
to Habitat construction sites, where they live and work for periods of
three weeks or longer. For more info, please contact for Habitat for Humanity
International, Sigrid Wynter, 912-924-6935, Ext. 437;

Local Groups -- Taos churches,
service clubs, and businesses regularly send teams to contribute a Saturday
of construction work. To organize or participate in a work group, inquire
at your church, club or workplace. No experience is necessary. Tools are
provided, and local restaurants donate lunch for the workers.
Rocky Mountain Youth Corps provides
crews of young people in their late teens and early twenties, in educational
programs such as Youthbuild. These teams have played a significant role
in our current projects at Santistevan Road and Arroyo Park.
"Our Habitat for Humanity trip to New Mexico was unbelievable. It was
amazing, learning to build homes out of adobe bricks and mud. We were surrounded
by mountains at every glance. The whole experience was like moments from
Heaven ... A trip filled with fun, lots of laughter, reflection, good
hard physical work, and time for relaxation. I would do it again in a heartbeat."
