We believe that Taos Day School is designed
to meet the needs of students in transition from childhood to
adolescence. The School program will encourage the progressive
development of knowledge, abilities, and attitudes needed for
students to function effectively in an increasingly pluralistic
society.
We believe that the school must encourage
students to become collaborative workers through understanding
of self and others. The school will foster the development and
use of effective leadership,
communications and group skills in a variety of settings.
We believe that the School will enable
students to become independent learners, capable os setting goals,
accessing, analyzing, integrating and evaluating information,
recognizing alternatives, and assuming responsibilities. The
school will emphasize the connections between content areas through
interdisciplinary teachings and encourage curricula which focus
on process skills for lifelong learning.
We believe that the school will provide
opportunities for students to develop interests and talents through
a variety of courses, clubs, and extra-curricular intramural
programs. These activities enable students to create a positive
vision of themselves and their future.
We believe implementation of the school
program will promote an atmosphere in which the student becomes
a self-directed learner
a collaborative worker
a critical thinker
a caring and responsible world citizen
a quality producer
a problem solver
School Board Philosophy
The philosophy of the School Board is to
provide and oversee quality education opportunities for the children
of Taos Pueblo in accordance with the tribe's needs for cultural
and economic well-being as a distinct entity, and to manifest
consideration of the whole person, taking into account the spiritual,
mental, physical, and cultural aspect of the person within family
and tribal contexts.
