The Taos Talking Pictures
1995 Media Literacy
Conference Panels

Thursday, April 6, 1995 marked the commencement of the first annual Taos Talking Pictures Festival. The Media Literacy Conference was an integral part of the Festival, and was co-produced by The Downs Media Education Center.

While the idea for a conference on media literacy is nothing new, combining one with a film festival had never been attempted before. The two seem to be logical mates: one cannot fully evaluate a film, or for that matter a television program, while ignoring the context in which it came into being.

What follows are transcripts of the two conference panels, both of which address the question of who is responsible for the impact of media on society. The panels have been broken down by date, and subsequently by subject. An index appears at the begining of each panel.
