La Plaza Awarded AOL Leadership Award

La Plaza Telecommunity was chosen as one of four winners of the America Online (AOL) Rural Telecommunication Leadership Awards for 1999. This was the first year for the awards. The National Center for Small Communities (NCSC) and the AOL Foundation began the new program to award innovative technology projects in rural America.

AOL Leadership winners panel - Aspen, CO La Plaza was given the award for the Questa wireless connection project done in partnership with the State Information Services Division . The AOL Awards recognize and promote outstanding achievement in rural community development, resulting from the deployment and use of advanced telecommunications.

Judith Pepper, Executive Director of La Plaza was presented the award and a check for $10,000 at the Rural Telecon Conference held in Aspen, Colorado in October last year. She also participated on a panel with the other three award winners.
