Content Development

Four ways to develop content for the La Plaza Virtual Library:

1) Content and site developed and maintained by La Plaza

While it is good to have some projects of this type in the Library, it is by far better to have community involvement in the content development. This type of development is appropriate for public service announcements or information that is static.

2) Content provided by community - site developed and maintained by La Plaza

This approach provides more relevant community information, however, it shifts the ownership of the content to La Plaza. Unless there is continued community involvement, content can soon become out of date and there is always the question of whose responsibility it is to provide updated information.

3) Content provided by community - site developed and maintained by community groups/members with training and guidance by La Plaza

This is the current approach being taken with the Virtual Library. Organizations are invited to participate, assisted with technical issues, and provided training. In return, they provide the content and develop and maintain the website. It is their responsibility to update the content and maintain the website. This approach provides for more relevant community information and for community involvement and ownership in the project.

4) Content and site developed and maintained by community organizations/members independent of La Plaza

As the La Plaza community becomes more technically proficient, organizations are independently creating their own websites. Based on the organization/content La Plaza will "host" the information on the Virtual Library.
