Frances grew up in the small community of Cerro in the northern part of Taos County. Her Spanish and French descendants settled in northern New Mexico, where Frances acquired her love and appreciation for the beautiful landscapes and colors of the Southwest.
Running a furniture business "Casa Chavez Vacational Rental" with her husband Miguel, also an Open Studio artist, Frances learned to create beautiful wood finishes that she now uses on the crosses she carves.
Frances is very excited about Open Studio and plans to use the training to let people outside of New Mexico know about her work. The Internet is new to her and she sees it opening up a whole new world to her.
