Gene was born in San Francisco, Colorado just north of the New Mexico border. Of Spanish and Indio descent, he has lived in the Taos area throughout his life. A versatile artist, Gene’s works include oil paintings, woodcarvings, weaving and metal work. His woodcarving and rawhide-leather weaving skills were taught to him by by a close realtive, Jake Sanchez. Jake also taught Gene everything he knows about horses. Gene was a horse trainer in New Mexico and also in Colorado.
Gene looks forward to participating in Open Studio and learning how to utilize the Internet and World Wide Web to market his work throughout the world.
