Miguel was born and raised in Taos where his family has lived since the 1700's after coming to New Mexico from Spain and Portugal. Growing up on a farm, he is grateful for all the responsibilities thrust upon him from an early age. After serving his country in the armed forces, he and his wife Frances settled in Taos after a stint in Germany. They raised a son and daughter providing for them by running a furniture business for close to thirty years.
Semi-retired, he now runs a vacation rental business Casa Chavez with his wife and spends a few hours a day carving wooden angels. He attends various art shows around the country and recently showed his angels at the Millicent Rogers Museum Art in Bloom Festival. In 1950 he also was the starring actor in the film "And Now Miguel"
About being selected for Open Studio, Miguel says, "I was truly honored and hope that the training will help in marketing not only my angels but the rental business as well."
